Hans J. Wegner was one of the first designers to express an interest in the rocking chair as a design object, and J16 was one of his first chairs to be produced. In 1944, the first version was produced. Production began after a procedure to make the chair easier to manufacture. Wegner's J16 has proven to be so successful that it has been in high demand since its release.
