The light fixture is based on the reflecting three-shade system, which distributes the majority of the light downwards. The shades are comprised of three-layer mouth-blown opal glass that is glossy on top and sandblasted matt on the bottom, resulting in gentle and diffuse light distribution.
The PH 3½-2½ Glass Table lamp, designed in 1928, is one of the numerous advanced projects that Poul Henningsen undertook in the development of his internationally famous three-shade system since 1926. Poul Henningsen devoted most of his life to taming electric light. He based his three-shade design on a logarithmic spiral to make optimum use of the light source.
