SWEDEN, 1930

Simon Gate (1883-1945), a painter, graphic and glass designer, was the Artistic Director of Orrefors from 1916-1945. The Graal glass technique he developed with fellow designer Edward Hald was considered the Swedish variant of Art Deco and they were known as the founders of Swedish glass art. In 1918, Orrefors purchased Sandvik Glassworks, specializing in plain, inexpensive tables and household soda glass. This fine example of smoke coloured pressed glass is in mint condition.
