DESIGNER: TAPIO WIRKKALA 1947 Finland
Legendary artist Tapio Wirkkala’s Kantarelli vase takes its name and shape from the chanterelle mushrooms that cover his native Finland. Shortly after its creation, the striking mouthblown glass art piece won the 1951 Milan Triennial and became a part of the permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In the decades since, the Kantarelli vase has become an icon of Scandinavian design for its stunning balance between function and form. The master craftsmen at the Iittala Glass Factory use the wheel-engraved technique on every unique mouthblown vase. The undulating lip combines with the delicate lines cut into the surface to create a dynamic design that creates a memorable impact.
