For 29 Years, Manks has helped Hong Kong families build their homes with timeless Scandinavian Design. A 29th anniversary is traditionally known as the ‘Furniture Anniversary’, symbolizing strength, foundation and beauty of a home to last.

Our story, all began over a steaming bowl of soup at the Designmuseum Danmark, gripped in one of the coldest winters of the 20th Century. Newly weds Paul & Susan Fung intuitively decided to combine their love of Antiques & Scandinavian Modern Design, armed with their collective skills, into a viable business that has since spanned 3 decades.

In November 1996, Manks opened her first shop specializing in 20th Century Decorative Arts, restoring an old Chinese porcelain shop on Elgin Street, an undiscovered area before the Central mid-levels escalator launched. Manks treasure trove of European antiques drew in a hushed eclectic crowd, new and seasoned collectors alike, seeking one of a kind pieces for their homes. Frequent travels to Finland, Sweden & Denmark followed, bringing back new collections to an eagerly awaiting fan base.

Thankful as antique dealers, with collectibles that only increased in value with time, during the challenging post-handover period, we shifted out to an industrial loft in Quarry Bay where we planned our next move.

In 2005 Manks sensitively restored a 1930’s carriage house and her heritage dwellings on Kennedy Terrace facing Cotton Tree Drive. With quiet fanfare we opened our shophouse where we transitioned from antique dealers to dealers in iconic Scandinavian Modern Design.

Having innate knowledge of character real estate in Hong Kong, it was a natural decision to start Manks Quarters, the real estate arm of Manks.

Reel forward to 2010 when Wong Chuk Hang was just a nullah next to an empty site, Manks started her journey into taking on more square footage, restoring old industrial lofts and warehouses to house her ever growing collection of Modern Design furniture and lighting. Taking over 2 floors at The Factory, we re-invented the manga clad industrial loft space to house Manks iconic Scandinavian Modern Design furniture and lighting. With our expanding portfolio of residential and commercial projects, again more space was needed. In 2016, we moved down the road to an industrial building known for housing Lamborghini and Pagani supercars.

Having relocated to the south of the island, to service our in-town patrons, in tandem, we set up a much loved corner shop on Sau Wa Fong Terrace, Wanchai. A challenging restoration project, turning a derelict workshop into a small gem.

In 2021, Manks opened her B2B office in Shanghai bringing our retail and commercial experience in Scandinavian Design across the border, working on ever expanding commercial sector, consulting and supporting upcoming new retailers in Scandinavian Modern Design.

With a diverse portfolio of the most significant Scandinavian brands in our stable, we have organically evolved, working on large scale commercial projects such as HKIA, MTR, Cathay Pacific to name a few, and with property developers in the hospitality, commercial and residential  sector.

Manks today, is housed in a Wong Chuk Hang 1970’s industrial building filled with natural light, fortuitously protected by the mountains and facing the water, compounding our continued endeavours of bringing the simple yet sophisticated Scandinavian way of life to the region.
