Hand painted Swedish Folk Art dates back to the Viking Age, primarily made by rural craftsmen in Northern Sweden, who created functional and decorative objects for every day use. This particular flat plane carving of an old Swedish man fishing is synonymous of the Swedish rural culture. Sven Gunnarsson was a furniture maker who turned his carving hobby into a career in the 1930s. His son Urban joined him in the 1960s and is still active today in Sweden.
